Cuero y cuerina: conoce sus diferencias

Leather and faux leather: know their differences

At first glance they may seem similar, but leather and faux leather have different origins and characteristics. Knowing their differences will help you choose and care for your footwear better.

Where does each material come from?

Leather is a material of animal origin that goes through a tanning process. Faux leather is a synthetic material that seeks to imitate its appearance, generally through a textile backing with a plastic coating.

Textures and finishes

Leather can have natural variations on its surface. It can also have smooth, glossy, metallic, or different textured finishes.

Faux leather usually has a more uniform appearance, although it can also reproduce different finishes. For this reason, appearance alone does not always allow you to distinguish them: check the product's material information.

How to care for them?

Each finish needs specific care. Avoid applying cleaning products without verifying that they are suitable for the material and test first in an inconspicuous area.

In leather, the care of suede will be different from that of a smooth or patent leather finish. Consult the instructions for your footwear before cleaning it.

Know what you are choosing

Beyond the color or design, knowing the material allows you to understand its characteristics and provide the care it needs. Check the description of each model and, if you have any questions, consult us before choosing.
